Job Requirements/Description

SEN Learning Support Assistant

New Addington, Croydon
Specialist SEN School
Full-time (Term Time Only), Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm
£465 - £500 per week PAYE Weekly Pay

Could you be the person a child looks for first when they arrive at school, even though they cannot say your name?

At this specialist SEN school in New Addington, many pupils communicate without words. They show you how they feel through their behaviour, body language and expressions. The staff who thrive here are those who take the time to understand each child's unique way of communicating.

Reed Education is recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEND school seeking a full-time SEN Learning Support Assistant. Pupils have a range of additional needs including SLD, PMLD, Autism (ASC) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). Some pupils are non-verbal, while others require mobility support and specialist equipment throughout the day.

Why join this school?

You may already have the skills needed for this role.

Whether you've supported a family member, worked in care, volunteered with children, or have SEND experience, you'll understand the importance of patience, trust and dignity.

This role allows you to use those skills to make a lasting impact on a child's education and development. Full training and ongoing support are provided, making it an excellent opportunity for those looking to build a career within SEND education.

Every achievement matters. Progress may look like a pupil communicating a need for the first time, engaging in learning more confidently, or becoming more independent in daily routines. Being part of these milestones makes this a truly rewarding role.

About the school

This specialist setting takes a collaborative approach, with teachers, therapists and support staff working closely together to support every pupil.

Therapeutic and sensory approaches are embedded throughout the school day, helping pupils access learning in ways that suit their individual needs. New staff receive comprehensive training and are supported by an experienced and welcoming team.

What you'll do

  • Support pupils with SLD, PMLD and ASC on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • Assist with sensory activities, life-skills sessions and classroom learning.
  • Provide personal care, feeding and toileting support with dignity and respect.
  • Support communication using visual aids, symbols, signing and other strategies.
  • Assist pupils with mobility needs and follow individual care plans.
  • Help create a safe, engaging and positive learning environment.

Who should apply?

  • Individuals with SEND experience gained through schools, care settings, volunteering or family support.
  • Care Workers or Support Workers looking to move into education.
  • Graduates in Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies, Health & Social Care or related subjects.
  • Candidates comfortable supporting personal care and physical needs.
  • Patient, resilient and compassionate individuals who enjoy working as part of a team.
