We are seeking a temporary Disability Adviser to join the Disability and Dyslexia Service to a London University.

This role is crucial in supporting over 3,800 disabled students, ensuring the university meets its obligations under the Equality Act (2010) and its strategic aims related to student support and inclusivity. The successful candidate will act as a first point of contact for disabled students, providing expert advice, guidance, and support.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for disabled students, offering expert advice and support, particularly to those with specific learning differences such as dyslexia or ADHD.
  • Implement and coordinate support measures such as examination access arrangements and library concessions.
  • Handle applications for campus accommodation based on disability, ensuring compliance with relevant policies.
  • Collaborate with various university departments to ensure effective implementation of reasonable adjustments and support the development of an inclusive teaching and learning environment.
  • Liaise with external disability agencies to facilitate access to necessary support for students.
  • Provide explanations of diagnostic reports to students with newly acquired diagnoses and implement appropriate adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client case notes in compliance with professional standards and data protection legislation.
  • Represent the Disability and Dyslexia Service in university committees and contribute to training sessions aimed at promoting support for disabled students.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to stay updated with sector changes and maintain professional competency.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in supporting disabled students, including those with specific learning differences and mental health diagnoses.
  • Strong understanding of the frameworks and legislation related to disability support in higher education, including the Equality Act (2010).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to service development.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to professional standards.
