Job Requirements/Description

The Vacancy

This is a newly-created role in the Methodist Church's Connexional (national) staff team, managing the Church's unique collection of c.60 post-war religious artworks, which includes pieces by Sutherland, Frink, Burra, Souza and Muafangejo: The Methodist Modern Art Collection - The Methodist Church

Working with the Collection's expert volunteer Management Committee, you will be responsible for facilitating the conservation and touring programmes, including supporting local churches with exhibition planning, logistics, venue and condition checking, and for making related funding bids. You will have the opportunity to enhance the interpretation of the Collection and to develop creative new uses of the artworks.

The Methodist Church is actively seeking a partner organisation with whom to establish a permanent new home base for the Collection. It is expected that part of your role will be to support relocating the artworks and helping to establish new ways of working as a result.

About You

We are seeking an experienced and innovative, fine art curator. You will be as comfortable supporting volunteers to stage exhibitions around Britain, as working with art gallery professionals, conservators and technicians. You will understand the potential for visual art to communicate the spiritual, and be able to demonstrate how to engage audiences in reflection and encourage conversation about God and Christian faith inspired by art.

This role has an occupational requirement to be a practicing Christian in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

If you meet most of the requirements, we encourage you to apply; transferable skills and experience will also be taken into consideration.

We are also open to considering remote/homeworking arrangements (salary may vary accordingly).

Disclosure and Barring Service

An enhanced DBS disclosure is required for this position. The Methodist Church will cover the associated costs.
