Job Requirements/Description
About Migrateful

Migrateful is an award-winning charity supporting refugees, asylum seekers and migrants on their journey to integration and employment.

Our cookery classes enable our chefs to share their cultures and cuisines, develop skills and confidence, and create meaningful connections with the wider community.

Our Cookery School is at the heart of our London operations. Alongside the Cookery School, we deliver classes through a growing network of external venues across London.

About the Role

We are looking for an organised, practical and proactive Venue Operations Coordinator to take ownership of the operational readiness, safety and quality of the Migrateful Cookery School and our network of external London venues.

You will coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Migrateful Cookery School in Farringdon, ensuring it is welcoming, well organised and ready for classes, while maintaining operational oversight of our external venues.

A key focus will be developing practical and consistent ways of managing our growing venue network across London. This will include introducing a new Venue Champion model, where designated facilitators undertake agreed routine checks and practical tasks at external venues. With support from the Operations Support Officer, you will establish this approach and maintain overall oversight, stepping in where additional intervention is required.

You will also coordinate the operational onboarding of new venues, establishing the equipment, systems and procedures required for successful class delivery.

You will be expected not only to keep venues running effectively, but to identify where systems and ways of working can be improved and take ownership of implementing practical solutions.

This is a varied, hands-on role combining day-to-day venue operations with coordination, problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cookery School Operations

Take day-to-day operational ownership of the Migrateful Cookery School, ensuring it is safe, welcoming, organised and ready for classes.
  • Maintain oversight of activities taking place at the Cookery School and ensure the space and resources are ready for use.
  • Ensure the ingredients, recipes, equipment and other resources required for classes are available, organised and ready for use.
  • Coordinate repairs, maintenance, cleaning and facilities requirements, acting as the day-to-day contact for building management, contractors and Migrateful's external cleaning provider.
  • Maintain effective systems for stock, storage, equipment, consumables and procurement.
  • Identify and resolve operational issues and implement practical improvements to ensure chefs, facilitators, volunteers and staff can use the space safely and effectively.
  • Coordinate the planned Cookery School refurbishment project, working with contractors, suppliers and internal colleagues to support delivery of the works, minimise disruption to classes and ensure the space is operationally ready for reopening.
2. External Venue Coordination

Maintain operational oversight of Migrateful's external London venues, ensuring they are appropriately equipped and consistently ready for classes.
  • Maintain clear records of venue-specific equipment, kit and operational requirements.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate schedules for venue checks, maintenance, cleaning and kit resets.
  • Monitor venue readiness, facilitator feedback and outstanding issues, ensuring appropriate action is taken and issues are followed through to resolution.
  • Maintain effective relationships with external venue contacts.
  • Undertake periodic quality assurance visits and respond directly where an issue requires additional intervention.
3. Venue Champion Coordination

Introduce and coordinate the new Venue Champion approach to support routine practical oversight at external venues.
  • With support from the Operations Support Officer, identify suitable Venue Champions from Migrateful's facilitator pool.
  • Establish clear responsibilities, guidance and schedules for routine venue checks and practical tasks.
  • Provide Venue Champions with appropriate training and ongoing support.
  • Monitor completion of agreed tasks and follow up issues requiring further operational action.
The Venue Operations Coordinator retains overall responsibility for venue standards and oversight.

4. New Venue Onboarding - When Required

Coordinate the operational setup of new London venues.
  • Conduct site assessments and establish equipment, storage, logistics, food safety and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate initial procurement, setup, documentation and facilitator onboarding.
  • Monitor initial classes and resolve operational issues during the establishment period.
  • Put appropriate arrangements in place for ongoing venue oversight once the venue is established.
5. Health, Safety & Quality

Maintain high operational, food safety and Health & Safety standards across Migrateful's London venues.
  • Maintain appropriate Health & Safety, food safety and allergen systems, documentation and checks.
  • Ensure relevant team members understand the procedures applicable to their roles.
  • Coordinate equipment safety, maintenance and compliance requirements.
  • Identify, track and escalate operational and safety risks appropriately.
6. Systems, Procurement & Continuous Improvement

Develop and maintain efficient systems that support the delivery of cookery classes across multiple venues.
  • Maintain effective systems for equipment, stock, ingredient ordering, procurement and venue documentation.
  • Ensure essential class resources and operational information are available where required.
  • Maintain appropriate supplier relationships and monitor expenditure within agreed budgets.
  • Regularly review venue operations and identify practical improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to standardise, simplify or digitise processes, reduce unnecessary manual work and improve operational efficiency.
  • Maintain clear records and documentation so operational knowledge is shared and does not depend on one individual.
Scope and Boundaries

The Venue Operations Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, maintaining and continuously improving the systems and standards that support effective venue management.

The role is practical and hands-on, particularly at the Cookery School and when setting up new venues. The postholder is not, however, expected to personally undertake every routine operational task at every external venue.

Routine practical support at external venues may be undertaken by designated Venue Champions, with support from the Operations Support Officer. The Venue Operations Coordinator retains overall oversight and responds where further intervention is required.

Reasonable changes may be made to the responsibilities of the role as Migrateful develops, following consultation with the postholder.

Working Hours & Out-of-Hours Support

Migrateful delivers cookery classes during evenings and weekends, and some operational issues may arise outside normal office hours.

As part of this role, the postholder may be expected to participate in a planned, shared out-of-hours telephone support rota, which may include evenings and weekends. When rostered, they will provide first-line operational support for urgent issues affecting class delivery, venues, facilitators or chefs, escalating issues where appropriate.

The rota will be scheduled in advance. Expectations regarding availability, response times, escalation procedures and arrangements for working time/TOIL will be set out in Migrateful's Out-of-Hours Support procedure.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who has:
  • Experience in kitchen, hospitality, venue, facilities or operational coordination.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple venues, priorities and people.
  • Good knowledge of Food Safety, Health & Safety and allergen management.
  • A proactive, practical and solution-focused approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with confidence working with a diverse range of people.
  • Experience developing, maintaining and improving operational systems, processes and schedules.
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative and confidently coordinate others.
  • Flexibility to travel between London venues and participate in a planned, shared out-of-hours support rota.
  • Comfort working in a practical, hands-on environment where some tasks may be physically demanding, including moving equipment, handling stock and setting up venue spaces.
Experience of working in a charity, social enterprise, community food setting or with volunteers or freelancers would be an advantage.

What Success Looks Like
  • The Cookery School and external venues are safe, organised, appropriately equipped and consistently ready for classes.
  • Equipment, stock, maintenance and venue issues are identified early and resolved efficiently.
  • Routine venue checks and practical tasks happen consistently, with clear oversight and follow-up.
