Job Requirements/Description

Sutton Living Limited

Chair of Board

£8,000 per annum (subject to April 2027 review)

Sutton Living Limited is going through the most consequential change in our history, transitioning from a private landlord into the parent of a registered charitable provider. We are now seeking an experienced Chair who can steer us through this transformation, whilst maintaining our private rented and leasehold portfolio.

Sutton Living is a wholly owned housing company of the London Borough of Sutton, with a background in development, that today holds a portfolio of private rented and leasehold properties. Since 2024 we have also been acquiring homes to let as affordable housing, with nomination rights for the Council to ease homelessness and temporary accommodation pressures. We are now establishing a charitable Community Benefit Society (CBS) to unlock grant funding - including from the GLA - and significantly increase our capacity to deliver affordable housing supply for the Borough.

This is a rare opportunity to help shape a new organisation from the ground up. We are seeking applications from experienced leaders with a strong understanding of corporate governance, financial oversight and risk management appropriate to a local authority housing company.

You will:

  • Lead the Board through the creation of the CBS and its registration with the Regulator of Social Housing, and oversee recruitment of the CBS's own board.

  • Demonstrate a track record of strategic leadership in a complex organisation.

  • Be politically astute, ideally with experience of a public body in an executive or political capacity.

  • Have sound commercial judgement and be able to challenge constructively.

  • Understand housing, ideally including experience of a regulatory environment such as the RSH or Homes England.

  • Be committed to the mission of Sutton Living and the CBS - increasing the supply of affordable housing and supporting the Council to address homelessness and temporary accommodation.

If you are energised at the idea of being our new Chair and leading us through this exciting time, we would love to hear from you.

Application is by CV and Supporting Statement (the latter should be no more than 3 sides of A4) to be returned with a completed Equal Opportunities monitoring form by 10.00 am on Monday September 14th 2026.
