Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, the Head of Finance will lead financial reporting, controls, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management across Buttle UK. This hands-on leadership role combines operational delivery with strategic oversight, ensuring robust financial systems, effective planning and strong financial governance. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, you will provide financial insight, oversee grant finance, drive process improvements and lead a small finance team to support informed decision-making and organisational success.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development, documentation and continuous improvement of financial reporting processes, controls and procedures.
• Ensure timely and accurate production of management accounts, financial reports and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, reserves monitoring and longer-term financial planning activities.
• Develop and maintain cashflow forecasts to support financial sustainability and effective decision-making.
• Provide high-quality financial insight, analysis and advice to senior leaders, budget holders and other stakeholders.
• Support robust financial oversight of grant-making activity, ensuring compliance, transparency and effective management of restricted and unrestricted funds.
• Drive improvements to financial systems, reporting frameworks and organisational processes, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and strengthen controls.
• Build strong partnerships across the organisation, acting as a trusted advisor and promoting financial literacy and accountability.
• Lead, coach and develop the Senior Finance Officer and Grants & Finance Administrator, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
• Support statutory reporting, year-end processes, audit requirements and wider financial compliance and risk management activities.

About You

We are looking for an experienced finance leader who combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative and proactive approach.

You will bring:

• A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent experience).
• Significant experience in financial reporting, controls, management accounting and finance operations.
• Experience of preparing and presenting management accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial analysis.
• A strong track record of improving financial systems, processes and reporting.
• Experience working collaboratively with non-finance stakeholders and supporting organisation-wide financial understanding.
• Experience leading, developing and coaching a small team.
• Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
• The ability to translate complex financial information into practical, accessible insights.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• A commitment to strong financial governance, accountability and continuous improvement.

Flexibility

This role is expected to work flexibly across the organisation and may require occasional additional hours during key financial periods or as needed and agreed with the Director of Finance and Operations.
