The Department of Anthropology invites applications for an LSE Fellow in Social Anthropology from candidates with specialist expertise in Africa and in the Anthropology of Religion. The Department has a strong international reputation and a long and distinguished history of leadership in the discipline. This will provide the Fellow with an ideal environment for starting their academic career. The appointment will be from 1 September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Your primary teaching duties will be to lecture, to teach classes and seminars, and to act as Academic Mentor to undergraduate and / or graduate students. Depending on circumstances, this may mean sole responsibility for a half-unit course, or teaching alongside another member of the department. The successful candidate will be asked to deliver classes and seminars on our ‘Topics in the Anthropology of Sub-Saharan Africa’ course, among other duties, including work on our ‘Understanding Religion in the Contemporary World’ course.

For this post, applicants must have a very good knowledge of Anthropology including specialist expertise in Africa, based on ethnographic research there, and in the Anthropology of Religion.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave and excellent training and development opportunities.
