The Role

As an Administrative Assistant, you will act as a key point of contact for residents and customers, handling enquiries and supporting the delivery of Housing & Neighbourhood Services. You will work across multiple communication channels, ensuring customers receive a professional, efficient, and customer-focused service.

The role requires strong administrative skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage a varied workload while maintaining high service standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a professional first point of contact for Housing & Neighbourhood enquiries.
  • Respond to customer enquiries, complaints, and service requests via telephone, email, webchat, social media, and other communication channels.
  • Take ownership of enquiries and work proactively to resolve issues effectively.
  • Process transactions, payments, discounts, complaints, and service requests accurately.
  • Maintain and update records across a range of databases and IT systems.
  • Support customers in accessing online and self-service options, encouraging digital engagement.
  • Liaise effectively with internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Manage sensitive and complex customer enquiries with professionalism, empathy, and tact.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection, information governance, customer care, and council policies.
  • Support continuous service improvement by contributing ideas and feedback.
  • Work flexibly across different teams and service areas to meet operational requirements.
  • Safeguard the wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults in line with organisational responsibilities.

About You

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Previous administration, customer service, contact centre, or local authority experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working with databases, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a customer-focused approach.
  • Confidence handling challenging conversations professionally and sensitively.
  • Experience within housing, neighbourhood services, repairs, tenancy services, or a public sector environment would be advantageous.
