Herts Young Homeless (hyh) is looking for a compassionate and motivated Outreach Support Worker to join our new Outreach Service and help young people aged 18 to 24 access the support they need to prevent homelessness and sustain safe, secure accommodation.

This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with young people who may be experiencing housing difficulties, be at risk of homelessness, or need support to maintain their tenancy. You will provide practical advice, guidance, and person-centred support while working collaboratively with partners across Hertfordshire to help young people achieve positive outcomes.

As part of a committed and supportive team, you will play a key role in helping young people develop the confidence, skills, and resilience needed to live independently and thrive.

About the role

As an Outreach Support Worker, you will:

• Provide housing advice and support to young people aged 18 to 24 who are at risk of homelessness.
• Carry out housing and support assessments, identifying needs and arranging appropriate support.
• Help young people sustain their accommodation through practical support with budgeting, managing finances, welfare benefits, rent arrears, and independent living skills.
• Build positive and professional relationships with external agencies and community partners.
• Maintain regular contact with young people and support them to access services that meet their individual needs.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across hyh to ensure young people receive the right support at the right time.
• Promote safeguarding and wellbeing, ensuring all young people receive safe and effective support.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience of supporting young people or vulnerable individuals.
• Understands the challenges that can contribute to homelessness and housing instability.
• Is able to build trusting relationships and communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Can manage a varied workload and prioritise effectively.
• Is confident working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Has good IT, administrative, and record-keeping skills.
• Demonstrates a non-judgemental, empathetic, and person-centred approach.
• Is committed to equality, diversity, inclusion, and empowering young people to achieve their goals.

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use is required for this role.
