Senior Independent Advisor to the People Committee

Providing independent expertise, challenge and assurance on people, culture and organisational development matters.

The General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) is seeking to appoint an additional Senior Independent Advisor to its People Committee.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced people professional to bring independent insight, contemporary HR expertise and strategic challenge to a modern, inclusive and forward-looking healthcare regulator.

As a small organisation of around 30 employees, our people are our most important asset. We are entering a period of organisational transition, including changes to our working environment and ways of working, making effective people governance, oversight and assurance more important than ever.

The People Committee plays a vital role in providing oversight, scrutiny and assurance on workforce matters across the organisation. Working alongside Council members, you will bring senior-level people practice expertise, contemporary CIPD insight, benchmarking and independent challenge to support robust decision-making and effective governance.

Contract: Fixed term from February 2027.

You will help the Committee provide assurance and oversight across areas including:

• People strategy, policy and practice.
• Recruitment, workforce planning and retention.
• Leadership capability and organisational culture.
• Employee wellbeing and experience.
• Organisational development and change.
• Pay and reward, HR systems and workforce effectiveness.
• Emerging people practice, professional standards and sector trends.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who:

• Have significant senior-level HR, people or organisational development experience.
• Hold Chartered Fellow CIPD status, or equivalent professional standing.
• Bring strategic insight and a strong track record of delivering organisational impact through people and culture.
• Can provide credible, independent advice, challenge and assurance.
• Have an understanding of governance and workforce-related risk.
• Are passionate about supporting inclusive, evidence-informed and effective people practices.
• Can contribute external perspectives, professional expertise and contemporary best practice.

Time commitment and remuneration:

• Three People Committee meetings per year, together with preparation time.
• Occasional additional engagement to support focused reviews or provide specialist advice.
• Fee of £340 per meeting attended, inclusive of preparation time.
• Reasonable travel and expenses reimbursed.
• Appointment commencing in February 2027 for an initial term of up to four years.
