Job Requirements/Description

BURGERS & FRIES AND INCREDIBLE CAREERS!

We're the burger restaurant with the uncomplicated formula: burgers and fries cooked to perfection, with no frozen ingredients. And we've stuck to the same 'perfect and serve' philosophy since our family business began in 1986.

These days, we're still just as much a family as we always have been. We have tons of integrity, we're enthusiastic. we're competitive and we just get it done - whatever the challenge.

As Five Guys continues to evolve its restaurant technology landscape across multiple European markets, this role offers the opportunity to play a key leadership part in shaping how restaurant technology is run, supported, standardised and improved across the estate.
Why this role matters
This is a high-impact technical role at an exciting stage in the evolution of Five Guys' restaurant technology estate.

The role exists to bring deeper technical ownership, stronger architectural governance and greater operational resilience across restaurant technology in the UK, France, Spain and Germany.

This is not a traditional people leadership role. Instead, we're looking for someone with strong technical credibility who enjoys solving complex problems, challenging assumptions, improving standards and ensuring technology solutions are fit for purpose in a live restaurant environment.

You'll act as the technical authority for restaurant technology, taking ownership of the systems and infrastructure that keep our restaurants trading every day. From POS and payments to kiosks, networks and in-store technology, you'll ensure solutions are robust, supportable and designed with operational reality in mind.
About the role
Reporting to the IT Director, you will be responsible for the architecture, standards, stability and continuous improvement of restaurant technology across the UK and Europe.

Working closely with IT, Cybersecurity, Architecture, Projects, Operations and external suppliers, you'll provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise across a diverse restaurant technology landscape.

A restaurant not trading is a restaurant losing money. You'll therefore play a critical role in supporting major incidents, identifying root causes, improving operational resilience and ensuring restaurant technology is reliable, secure and scalable.

This role will suit someone who enjoys getting into the technical detail, challenging suppliers, defining standards and driving long-term improvements rather than applying short-term fixes.
What you'll be doingTechnical Architecture & Ownership

  • Act as the technical authority for restaurant technology across multiple markets.
  • Define and maintain technical standards, architecture principles and support models.
  • Review and approve technical designs, configurations and implementation approaches.
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, supportable, secure and aligned to operational requirements.
  • Identify dependencies, risks and opportunities for improvement across the technology estate.

Restaurant Operations & Incident Management

  • Own the technical stability of restaurant technology environments.
  • Support major incident response and critical service restoration activities.
  • Investigate recurring issues and identify underlying root causes.
  • Drive permanent solutions and service improvements.
  • Provide technical guidance and escalation support for complex operational issues.

Technology Standards & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain standards across restaurant technology platforms.
  • Reduce technical debt, unsupported workarounds and unnecessary complexity.
  • Support new restaurant openings, refurbishments and technology refresh programmes.
  • Use operational data and incident trends to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Drive consistency across countries whilst balancing local operational requirements.

Supplier & Vendor Management

  • Review supplier performance and technical delivery.
  • Challenge solutions that do not meet Five Guys standards.
  • Ensure suppliers provide appropriate documentation, support models and testing.
  • Partner with vendors to improve resilience, service quality and operational outcomes.
  • Support contract and SLA reviews from a technical perspective.

Documentation & Technical Governance

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, standards and operational procedures.
  • Define technical handover requirements for projects and technology changes.
  • Document decisions, risks, dependencies and support arrangements.
  • Improve the quality and consistency of technical knowledge across the business.
  • Establish repeatable documentation and governance processes.

What we're looking for
We're looking for a technically strong individual with experience supporting complex, multi-site operational environments.

You'll have:

  • Strong experience within restaurant, hospitality, retail or multi-site technology environments.
  • Technical expertise across POS platforms, payments, kiosks, networking and in-store infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting business-critical technology where uptime and operational continuity are essential.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience reviewing technical architectures and supplier solutions.
  • The confidence to challenge poor design, unnecessary complexity and operational risk.
  • Excellent documentation and technical governance capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A practical, hands-on approach with a focus on delivery and results.
