Caseworker

About the role:

Preventing homelessness often comes down to what happens in the weeks and days before someone loses their home. As a Caseworker within our Single Homeless Prevention Service (SHPS) in Hackney, you'll work at that critical point, helping single adults understand their housing options, overcome barriers and secure a route towards a safe and sustainable home.

Working closely with Hackney's Housing Options teams, you'll manage a caseload of people referred into the service and turn assessments into action. You'll develop clear, co-produced Personal Housing Plans, identify realistic housing solutions and provide focused, practical support to help clients prevent or relieve their homelessness. A key part of your role will be helping people access private rented accommodation, requiring persistence, strong negotiation skills and the ability to keep momentum when housing options are limited or circumstances change.

You'll take a proactive approach to every case: completing strengths based assessments, managing risk and safeguarding concerns, gathering the information needed to move cases forward and building strong relationships with landlords, housing colleagues and other agencies. Your focus won't simply be on finding somewhere for someone to live, but on helping them build the stability, confidence and practical foundations to sustain their tenancy and move forward independently.

About you:

• You know how to navigate the private rented sector and understand the housing and homelessness legislation that shapes the options available to clients.
• You can turn conversations into clear, purposeful support plans that are genuinely co-produced and keep people moving towards their goals.
• You're organised, responsive and able to keep momentum across a busy caseload, balancing deadlines, targets and changing priorities without losing sight of what matters.
• You're confident building relationships across housing, statutory and voluntary sector partners, and know how to use those relationships to unlock better outcomes for clients.
• You bring persistence, empathy and a strengths-based approach, helping people recognise what's possible, stay engaged and build greater independence.
