Our main hospital spans 8 floors with 234 beds and 10 operating theatres, including a hybrid theatre, supported by a 13-bed intensive care unit.

Our Gynaecology and General Surgery Ward provides care for patients undergoing a variety of planned and complex procedures. This is a busy and dynamic ward where teamwork is essential, offering exposure to a diverse case mix and excellent opportunities to build your clinical experience in surgical nursing.

The Role

As a Staff Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering safe, effective, and high-quality nursing care. You will work closely with the wider clinical team to ensure patients receive the best possible experience throughout their stay.

Key Duties

  • Deliver high quality, evidence-based nursing care in line with hospital policies and best practice.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients undergoing gynaecological and general surgical procedures.
  • Support patients pre-operatively and post operatively, including monitoring recovery and managing complications.
  • Administer medications safely in line with Nursing and Midwifery Council guidelines.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
  • Maintain accurate, clear, and timely clinical documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with consultants, medical teams, and allied health professionals.
  • Provide clear communication and emotional support to patients and their families.
  • Contribute to effective discharge planning to ensure safe transitions of care.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well organised clinical environment.
  • Support Healthcare Assistants and junior staff, contributing to a positive team culture.
  • Participate in audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities.

Key Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with a valid Nursing and Midwifery Council registration.
  • Previous experience within an acute hospital setting.
  • Experience or exposure to surgical nursing is desirable.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Good organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise workload in a busy environment.
  • Confident communicator, able to engage effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • A proactive and team focused approach.
  • Commitment to delivering high standards of patient care.
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the service.
