The Role

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Catering & Travel & Tourism Lecturerto join our Service Industries department at our Hammersmith campus.

This role is 36 hours a week, Term Time Only, on a Permanent Contract.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Catering, and Travel & Tourism programmes, supporting learners to achieve their full potential. The role involves classroom, practical and industry-based delivery, learner support, assessment, and contribution to curriculum development, ensuring provision remains current, industry-relevant and aligned with awarding body requirements.

Where appropriate, you may also take responsibility for leading a study programme or course, including curriculum design, quality assurance and learner outcomes.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Deliver engaging and effective teaching, training and assessment across Catering, Hospitality and Travel & Tourism programmes.
  • Plan and deliver engaging theoretical, practical and industry-focused sessions that develop learners' knowledge, skills, confidence and employability.
  • Prepare lesson plans, schemes of work and high-quality teaching and learning materials in line with College and awarding body requirements.
  • Deliver practical catering sessions, where required, ensuring high standards of food preparation, presentation, service and professional practice.
  • Support learners to develop industry-relevant skills in areas such as food preparation, culinary techniques, customer service, hospitality operations, travel, tourism and destination knowledge.
  • Act as a Personal Tutor, providing academic and pastoral support and delivering the College tutorial programme.
  • Monitor learner attendance, progress, behaviour and achievement, taking appropriate action where required.
  • Integrate English and Maths into vocational teaching and support delivery of GCSE and/or Functional Skills where required.
  • Act as an internal assessor and internal verifier, where required.
  • Promote employability and professional skills, including communication, teamwork, customer service, problem-solving and professional standards.
  • Contribute to practical activities, enrichment, events, educational visits, industry projects and other experiences that enhance learner development.
  • Contribute to learner recruitment activities, including open evenings, interviews, taster sessions and course promotion.
  • Support work experience, industry engagement activities, external visits and employer partnerships across the catering, hospitality, travel and tourism sectors.
  • Develop and maintain effective links with employers, hotels, restaurants, tourism organisations, travel companies, airlines, visitor attractions and other relevant industry partners.
  • Promote high standards of health and safety, food hygiene, safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Ensure practical learning environments are maintained to appropriate professional, food safety and health and safety standards.
  • Contribute to quality improvement processes, including self-assessment, course review, learner feedback and evaluation.
  • Maintain up-to-date vocational and industry knowledge and meet minimum occupational competence requirements.
  • Support learners in preparing for progression into employment, apprenticeships, higher education or further study within the catering, hospitality, travel and tourism sectors.
