Fire Safety Surveyor

Goodman Masson is currently working with a London social housing organisation to recruit for an interim Fire Safety Surveyor.

Pay - £350 - £450 per day INSIDE IR35

The Role

As Fire Safety Surveyor, you will be responsible for overseeing designated fire risk assessment actions, ensuring works are completed to the required standard and within agreed timescales.

You will work closely with fire safety professionals, contractors, consultants, internal asset and property teams and residents to ensure fire safety works are delivered effectively and in accordance with current legislation and standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing designated fire risk assessment actions and monitoring progress through to completion.
• Ensuring fire safety works are delivered within required timescales.
• Liaising with relevant Fire Authorities and ensuring actions arising from Notices of Deficiencies are addressed appropriately.
• Assessing building defects and developing appropriate remedial proposals.
• Preparing detailed specifications for remedial and fire safety works.
• Obtaining quotations and estimates in accordance with procurement procedures.
• Monitoring contractor and consultant performance and reporting on progress.
• Carrying out pre- and post-inspections and quality control checks.
• Ensuring completed works meet required construction, fire safety and quality standards.
• Identifying and pursuing any necessary remedial or corrective works.
• Carrying out Health & Safety spot checks and monitoring contractor compliance with RAMS and relevant legislation.
• Monitoring site progress, variations, snagging and health and safety records.
• Maintaining accurate records and updating relevant asset and fire safety systems.
• Managing resident complaints and ensuring appropriate responses and actions are provided.
• Providing technical advice on construction, building and fire safety matters to internal teams.
• Reviewing drawings and specifications and providing technical input into new developments where required.
• Monitoring expenditure, contractor performance and value for money.
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, procedures and quality control.

About You

You will be an experienced Fire Safety Surveyor with a strong background in a maintenance or social housing environment.

You will have:

• Demonstrable experience working as a fire/building surveyor within a maintenance environment.
• Experience carrying out pre- and post-inspections.
• A recognised fire safety qualification such as NEBOSH Fire or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
• Experience managing contractors under both SOR and non-SOR contracts.
• Strong knowledge of construction, building regulations, health & safety legislation and relevant standards.
• In-depth understanding of construction and fire-related defects and appropriate remedial solutions.
• Proven experience producing detailed specifications of works.
• Strong contract management skills.
• Knowledge of procurement and different forms of contract.
• Experience monitoring contractor performance and quality.
• Strong budget management and cost control experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to work with mobile technology.
